Our partnership with the Social Development and Education Trust (SDET), in Tamil Nadu state, India, began in 2013.

SDET runs a special day school for 55 children with learning disabilities and supports 85 boys and girls from very poor and tribal communities in mainstream education. SDET also cares for 20 disabled children, many orphaned or abandoned, who live here.

We re-equipped their vocational computer training centre which has trained more than 400 disadvantaged and disabled young people from poor families. Of the 268 who passed with certification, 196 are gainfully employed.

SDET’s day school enables parents with disabled children to continue to work, while their children enjoy playing and learning.

Our current project is helping SDET run the special school and computer training centre; pay staff, provide safe transport and physio sessions.

SDET is also reaching out to communities, dispelling myths about disability and encouraging parents to play an active role in their disabled children’s wellbeing.
