Berhan Lehetsanat (‘Light for Children’) is an Ethiopian NGO based in Addis Ababa, and a DDP partner since 2003. Their work is primarily with disabled children and focuses on education, health and livelihoods using a community-based development approach.
BL’s work enhances the lives of disabled children, deprived and marginalized children, girls, youth, women and parents of disabled children, and we have worked together in Ethiopia’s Sidama Region to tackle harmful traditional practices such as FGM/C, one of the main barriers to girls finishing their education.
Through the partnership with DDP, BL have enhanced the scope and scale of their work and have gone on to implementing programmes in many other regions of Ethiopia. We are currently working for the educational inclusion of displaced, conflict-affected and disabled children in Amhara Regional State.
